He's a country boy.

And their worlds are about to collide.

Eager to move up the family business ladder, Emma Cross is counting down the days until her big promotion. When the witty private investigator finally receives an assignment worthy of her talents, keeping her wits around her new horse-riding and mouth-watering cowboy client, is more difficult than she expected.

Seeking justice, Eric Waters hires Cross Enterprises to find the man who’s threatened his family for decades. While Eric doubts Emma’s abilities to find the brute responsible for his family’s murder, he can’t stay away from her.

The moment their paths cross, the partners realize that mixing business with pleasure may prove more risky than Emma bargained for, and more deceitful than Eric’s honest heart can handle.

With a foundation of lies and fear, their blossoming relationship is tested by family, friends and enemies, until their only choice is to turn to each other. As threats loom, trust and honesty are broken and Emma and Eric’s lives are flipped upside down.

Join Emma and Eric in their story of perseverance and beating the odds, in Layer Crossed.

WOW, what a great and emotional story. I can not imagine what is was like for Emma Cross. Here she was strong woman that had two overprotective brothers. She helped her brothers at Cross Enterprises. She was a very smart woman and had such an interesting job. It had to be very exciting to be a PI, unfortunately her brothers worked very hard to keep her out of danger. Can you say yum? Eric Waters was this sexy cowboy. He was one panty melter. Women looked at him and I am sure thought Ride a cowboy and save a horse. Eric did have something he need a PI for, he needed to find a very dangerous man. HIs family would not be safe and could not heal until he did so. I loved how Eric first met Emma. It defiantly was not under normal circumstances. I am sure he truly did not know what to think of her. Emma herself was taken back by the sexy cowboy as well. So funny, Emma is this free spirited woman that is a wild card. Eric on the other hand is a total gentleman. My heart truly broke for both Emma and Eric. Both had very heart breaking stories. Both had a past that haunted them. I tried to decided between the two which was hurting the most. I could not decide. Both were damaged to a certain degree due to their past. These two will defiantly find healing within each other. OMG, I so wanted to jump in the book and give Clair a beat down. That girl just did not know when to let go. She defiantly trouble. I think I would of loved to of seen her get what she deserved. I just loved Misty. This girl broke my heart. She was living with a dark secret and was so damaged due to her past. She lived in fear for so many reasons. I loved how Emma embraced her and became the friend that Misty needed. Things will get very hot and steamy between Emma and Eric. Emma will find she can not keep it total professional. The thing is there are secrets and secrets can destroy them if they are not careful. There are a few twist along the way and the danger will not go away. Emma will prove how amazing and strong she really is and Eric will prove how much he really loves Emma. This was a great story and glad I got a chance to read the book. I am so going to have to read the other books in the series. There is still so many unanswered questions. The other books in the series are defiantly a must read. FYI, though I loved the whole book my favorite part in this story was the ending. OMG, brought tears to my eyes.

This an excellent start to this spinoff series from Layers series. Crossed started as the prequel and this book 1 is awesome. Emma is a fabulous heroine and Eric is a complicated but simple match for her. Action, passion, drama and angst. Well done Ms. Silks onto book 2.

You really need to read her Crossed series. She writes her stories and brings them to life, you will fall in love with her characters and want more!!

About the author

USA Today Bestselling Author Lacey Silks writes erotic and contemporary romances with a touch of suspense. She’s a happily married wife with two kids who uses her husband to test out the more intimate scenes for her writing – he said he doesn’t mind it at all.

When she’s not thinking about writing suspenseful and heart-throbbing yet gut-wrenching stories, Lacey enjoys camping and skiing with her family (not at the same time, but she also lives in a YOLO state of mind so you never know). She’s an early bird by nature, but loves the nightly adventures with her hubby which provide good content for her books.

Lacey likes to make her readers blush. She judges men by the size of their feet and loves sexy lingerie, though her favourite piece of clothing is a birthday suit.
